The New Caledonian Lorikeet is known from two female specimens collected in 1859. Reports of sightings in the 1950s and 1976 are unconfirmed, and no later sighting has been confirmed. The described female is mostly green, with yellow cheeks and throat and a purple-blue crown.
The World Parrot Trust describes the adult female as mostly green, with yellow cheeks and throat, a purple-blue crown, and an orange-red bill. The male is undescribed, and juvenile coloration is not recorded.
Early reports say the lorikeet lived in forest and sometimes fed in Erythina trees. These are historical reports, not recent confirmed observations.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
