A hummingbird described from Sierra de Chiribiquete in southeastern Colombia. The original paper records it in open scrub on a mesa and adjacent low forest; those observations were not a survey of the entire surrounding lowlands.
Males have metallic green plumage, a blue-green throat and breast, and a shallowly forked steel-blue tail. Females have a dusky face, a white stripe behind the eye and grey underparts.
At the original study site, both sexes visited red-orange Decagonocarpus flowers and gleaned small arthropods from leaves and flowers of Bonnetia and other shrubs. The paper also records fly-catching at gaps in the vegetation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
