This small bird occurs in the Amazon region of Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. Males are grey and females olive-grey; river-edge and flooded-forest records are documented.
Males are grey with pale underparts, two white wing-bars, a white back patch, and narrow white tail tips. Females are pale olive-grey above with two buff wing-bars.
The species is reported as uncommon in Amazonian várzea and older river islands. A nest was described from flooded forest in Brazil, and a 2019 survey recorded one male on Isla Chaupi in Peru.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
