The East African springhare's fur fluoresces orange to red under ultraviolet light. The examined specimens included animals from Kenya and Tanzania, but the ecological role of the glow remains unknown.
Study specimens showed orange-to-red fluorescence on the back and underside under UV light. Its intensity varied among individuals and across patches.
The article describes both springhare species as nocturnal and fossorial: they shelter in burrows by day and graze in short-grass areas at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
