The Jungle Nightjar is a nocturnal bird whose intricate gray-brown pattern blends into trees or the ground. It also occurs in grassy and scrubby places, not only in forest.
It has intricate gray-brown patterning, a golden patch behind the ear, and pale tan spots on the wings. Males show white patches near the wingtips and on the outer tail; these marks are buffy brown in females.
It uses wooded, grassy, and scrubby habitats and gives a long, distinctive song.
Eggs of the Indian and Sri Lankan subspecies range from pale reddish brown or pinkish white to warm cream or pinkish buff, with brown or reddish-brown markings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
