A laughingthrush of Himalayan forests, it is described here through the nominate form from eastern Nepal to Bhutan, whose account gives a black face and yellow outer wing and tail feathers.
In the nominate subspecies, the face and lores are black, with a white patch behind the ear; the outer wing and tail feathers are golden yellow.
It inhabits Himalayan forest, rhododendron thickets and bamboo, and searches on the ground for small invertebrates.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
