A fruit-eating bat recorded on Sulawesi. A 2021 phylogenetic study proposed placing the species formerly called Rousettus celebensis in Pilonycteris; a 2025 field study also used Pilonycteris celebensis.
The phylogenetic paper summarizes the proposed genus as having longer, brighter fur than related Rousettus, a partly or wholly hairy membrane between the legs and tail, and proportionally longer digits and rostrum despite smaller overall size.
A 2025 survey in Bualemo classified it as phytophagous and recorded it in all five habitat types sampled.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
