This tanager occurs in hill and mountain forest of southeastern Brazil. Golden-yellow upperparts contrast with a turquoise underside. A survey at Serra do Caraça recorded it feeding on fruit in forest and rocky grassland.
The upperparts are golden yellow with black streaks; the forehead and throat are black. The underparts are mostly turquoise, becoming green on the lower belly and yellow on the lower flanks.
A bird survey at Serra do Caraça recorded it in the middle and upper forest strata and feeding on fruit both within forest and in campos rupestres, rocky montane grassland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
