A small hummingbird of humid mountain forest. The male has a green crown and ear coverts, and its upper throat shines emerald green.
The male has a deep green crown and ear coverts, with a white spot behind the eye. Its upper throat is iridescent emerald, its lower throat black to grey, and its grey underparts have scattered green spots.
It builds a cup-shaped nest low in the understory of humid forest. The account gives February to March as the breeding period.
