A large rodent of the Chaco, it occurs in Paraguay, southern Bolivia, and northwestern Argentina, in dry scrub and woodland.
It has long, slender legs and broad pointed ears. The back is gray-brown with fine speckling, while the flanks and underside are pale.
It is diurnal. Its recorded diet shifts seasonally: forbs and grasses are common in the rainy season, while cacti and bromeliads become important in the dry season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
