The Ruddy Pigeon is usually found in the canopy or subcanopy of mature forest. In Peru it is recorded in Andean foothill forest and humid forest in far northwestern Tumbes.
It is mostly reddish brown, with a brown iris and reddish bare skin around the eye. Its black bill is relatively short, and the tail is solid gray.
It uses the canopy and subcanopy of mature forest and is less often found along forest edges.
