A weaver of lowland forests along rivers and swamps in western and central Africa. It searches for insects and small fruits from the forest mid-levels to the canopy.
A breeding male has a glossy black head, back and tail, a narrow golden-yellow collar extending onto the upper mantle, and a rich chestnut breast and belly. Females are duller below.
It feeds mainly on insects, also taking small fruits and berries. It forages in the forest mid-levels and canopy, often in groups of four to six and sometimes in mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
