The Large-billed Lark is marked by a thick bill and a raised crest. It walks on the ground to find food in the grasslands and scrub of southern Africa.
Its crest is usually held flat and is raised when alarmed or singing. It has a thick bill with a yellowish base and brown markings on the feathers.
It walks over grassland and farmland, searching for seeds and small invertebrates.
At Bontebok National Park, South Africa, a male was seen courting by raising its crest, fanning its tail and shivering its wings as it shuffled toward the female in a crouched posture.
At the same site, the male also puffed out its chest and hopped around the female, either using both feet together or alternating its feet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
