The common bear cuscus is an arboreal marsupial that moves slowly through trees with its grasping tail and forefeet and feeds mainly on leaves.
It has a short face and small furry ears. Its coat ranges from black through gray to brown, with paler fur on the belly and extremities. The bare tail is about half the total body length and works with the forefeet when moving among trees.
It moves slowly through the canopy, using its tail and grasping forefeet. Leaves are its main food, and it often prefers young leaves.
