Yellow-bellied Toad
Bombina variegata
This toad has a yellow belly, reflected in its common English name. A genetic study of fifteen sites in Germany’s Northern Weser Hills found four clusters, with considerable exchange in only two.[3]
Size and lifespan
- Body length
- adult maximum in a source 5 cm[2]
Appearance
It is known as the yellow-bellied toad.[3]
Life
It tends to stay near its breeding site and is a short-distance migrant.[3]
Researchers genotyped toads at fifteen Northern Weser Hills sites and identified four genetic clusters. Only two showed considerable exchange. A2 motorway underpasses had a positive connectivity signal in this local analysis.[3]
