The Steppe Polecat is a mustelid of dry open habitats across parts of Europe and Central Asia. Its pale coat contrasts with a dark facial mask, legs, and part of the tail.
The body is straw yellow to pale brown, darker along the back and gradually lighter underneath. The thorax, limbs, and part of the tail are dark, and the muzzle has a mask-like pattern.
It occurs in moderately dry habitats such as steppe, semi-desert, pasture, and cultivated fields, and tends to avoid forests. It shelters by day in burrows, tree hollows, dense cover, rock crevices, or buildings, and hunts mainly rodents at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
