The Abyssinian Crimsonwing is a small bird of the wet montane forests of the Ethiopian Highlands.
It is mostly dark, with a red back, black wings and tail, and gray underparts. The male also has red on the flanks.
It uses wet montane forest, streamside woods, forest edges, and clearings, but is inconspicuous and usually seen in pairs or small groups.
Near Chemisia in Kenya in 1979, birds fed on the ground in clearings along forest roads.
In the kilimensis birds examined in North Nandi Forest, Kenya, in 1978–1979, males weighed 11.9–13.0 g and females 12.3–12.9 g.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
