Two adults were captured at settlements on the eastern bank of the Euphrates in southern Iraq. On 4 December 2021, one adult male and one adult female were caught on a muddy islet in Edhe’am Marsh, southwestern Iran. Both marsh sites had freshwater lakes and channels edged by reeds and bulrushes. A few captive animals were wary of people and made a faint, harsh, whistle-like call when agitated.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
