Finlayson's cave bat is a small species widespread across Australia. It occurs from deserts to high-rainfall coastal areas, often near rocky outcrops or hills.
The back is dark brown with a rust-red hue and the belly is paler. Long fur extends from the forehead onto the muzzle; the ears and wing membranes are dark.
It catches flying insects and is often seen foraging over waterholes. Day roosts include twilight zones of caves, rock cracks and disused mines. A colony exceeding 500 has been recorded, although smaller groups are usual.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
