This western Madagascan bat has soft, dark-brown dorsal fur. Its type specimen came from a grassy clearing beside rice fields and woodland. The 2019 account lists two confirmed localities and questions its separate-species status.
The dorsal fur is long, soft and dark chocolate brown, lighter at the bases. Throat and ventral fur is shorter and finer, a lighter medium brown with grayish-brown bases. The wings and uropatagium are dark brownish black, and the ears are short and black.
At the type locality, the holotype was collected in an open grassy clearing beside rice fields and disturbed deciduous forest, near a limestone outcrop. The account describes dry semideciduous forest as the original natural habitat and notes nearby relatively intact forest. These details apply to the type locality, not all of western Madagascar.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
