The Fine-spotted Woodpecker is a medium-sized, green-backed woodpecker. Males and females differ in head pattern, and the amount of spotting below varies across its range.
Males have a red crown and moustache. Females have a white-streaked black forecrown, red hindcrown, and white-spotted black moustache. Underparts are buff with fine spots over much of the range, but white with bolder spots in the east.
It is found in Guinea and dry thorn savannas, often in pairs that give a loud series of “kreek” notes in duet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
