This insect-eating shrew is known from the uplands of Crete. Its range overlaps partly with a close relative, and it is difficult to tell the two apart by sight, so researchers are studying calls as a survey tool.
It is difficult to find and distinguish in the field by sight. Researchers confirmed individuals with morphology and genetic analysis and also studied calls to distinguish it from a similar shrew.
It eats insects. To reduce capture difficulties and mortality after trapping, researchers are studying non-invasive acoustic surveys alongside visual detection.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
