The principal gerbil is a poorly documented gerbil known from a type locality in Northern Darfur. In the sources checked here, little is known about its way of life beyond descriptions based on the type specimen.
The 1956 account describes the type as an adult female with a 73 mm head-and-body length and 115 mm tail. Its color is similar to G. stigmonyx, but it has a smaller body.
The sources checked do not describe species-specific activity, diet, or breeding. A 2016 study includes it among rodents and shrews recorded only from their type localities.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
