The lesser musky fruit bat occurs in the Mindanao Faunal Region of the Philippines. In one mountain survey it was common in lowland forest and less common higher up.
It looks much like the related P. jagori. The field study distinguished them by overall size and by combining forearm length with the width across the upper canine bases.
At Kitanglad it was common in old-growth and disturbed lowland forest but less frequent in montane forest. In April–May 1992, seven of eleven adult females with enlarged nipples were pregnant.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
