The streaked dwarf porcupine is recorded in the Amazon region. An individual documented in southeastern Ecuador had flexible spines projecting beyond its fur and a prehensile tail.
The documented individual had both two-colored and three-colored dorsal spines. Long bristles projecting beyond the fur were flexible rather than rigid; the prehensile tail bore two-colored spines.
When the observer approached, the documented individual raised its dorsal spines. This is a reaction directly observed in one animal in the report.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
