Nelson's antelope squirrel is a small squirrel with a pale stripe along its side. It lives in dry grasslands and shrublands in California, searching for food by day and using burrow systems.
A pale stripe runs from behind the shoulder toward the rump. Its back is buffy tan and its short tail is gray to white underneath; the autumn and winter coat is darker than the summer coat.
It is diurnal, lives in small family groups, and uses underground burrows. On very hot days it is often more active around dawn or dusk.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
