The Bornean shrew is reported from lowland and lower montane forests of Borneo. A survey in closed forest at Bukit Sarang, Sarawak, collected three specimens in pitfall traps.
The three specimens collected at Bukit Sarang measured 151–163 mm in total length and weighed 6.5–14 g. These are measurements from the survey sample.
During the 2005 survey, three specimens were taken in pitfall traps along buttress roots and limestone walls in closed forest at Bukit Sarang. The authors tentatively assigned them to C. f. doriae because the subspecies limits were poorly defined.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
