This sandgrouse feeds on seeds in dry grassland around the Kalahari. Flocks gather at waterholes, and adults carry water to chicks in their belly feathers.
Its plumage is pale brown to rufous with dark-brown and white spots. Adult males have gray throats and cheeks; females have yellowish throats and cheeks. Bare yellow skin surrounds the eye.
It eats small seeds and gathers in flocks at waterholes in the morning. To give chicks water, adults soak their belly feathers and carry it back to the nest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
