Lewis’ tuco-tuco is a burrowing rodent known from the highlands of southern Bolivia. Animals caught near Iscayachi had dark black-brown backs and some burrows were in damp soil, but the study found no evidence that they live in or near water.
Animals trapped near Iscayachi had rich, dark black-brown fur on the back and lighter gray fur below. Their pinnae were sparsely furred and pink.
It lives in underground burrows. Some animals near Iscayachi were trapped in burrows in damp soil by the Tomayapo River, but none of the 15 animals collected lived in or very near water.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
