This mourner occurs in Amazonian lowland forest and elsewhere. A nest was reported in mature floodplain forest in Peru, and a Brazilian study documented a distinctive juvenile plumage.
In a 2012 report, a juvenile had cinnamon-colored feathers tipped with black spots. This is a juvenile plumage, not the adult appearance.
At Cocha Cashu, Peru, a cup nest was found in mature floodplain forest among branches of an epiphytic fern on a small tree, 1.8 m above ground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
