The Cariri Climbing Mouse was described from Ceará in northeastern Brazil. Its original account concerns moist forest patches surrounded by the dry Caatinga.
In the original comparison, its fur is grayer and less smooth, and its whiskers longer, than those of Rhipidomys mastacalis and R. macrurus.
The species was recorded in moist highland forest enclaves surrounded by the dry Caatinga.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
