This spiny-furred mouse lives in the mountains of northwestern Costa Rica. The Monteverde study recorded it in old and recovering forest, but not in the surveyed pastures or fields.
The back is dark brown with spiny hairs, the belly is white, and the tail is sharply two-toned.
Around Monteverde, it was recorded as a forest-floor mouse. The study found it in primary forest and recovering secondary forest, but not in the surveyed pastures or farmland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
