This tiny parrot moves along trunks and branches and nests in tree-bound termite mounds. The adult plumage descriptions differ between the subspecies found on different islands.
Adults of the nominate subspecies M. m. meeki are mostly green, with yellow on the neck and underparts. M. m. proxima is described as paler around the cheeks and ear coverts, with more yellow and gray.
It moves among trunks and lianas, feeding on lichens and fungi from tree trunks. A nest has also been reported in an arboreal termite mound.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
