A tanager of the eastern Andes from southern Peru into western and central Bolivia. It occurs in moist montane forest, often around bamboo, and is seen in pairs or small groups.
Adults have bright olive upperparts, a black stripe on the crown and through the eye, and orange-ochre markings over the eye, cheek, throat and chest that fade paler below. The sexes are similar; immatures are duller.
It feeds on insects and some plant matter, foraging in bamboo and close to the ground. It is usually seen in pairs or small groups and may join mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
