The moon shrew is treated as endemic to Uganda and is associated with rain forest. Kenyan specimens were reported as C. cf. selina rather than confirmed as the same species.
A Mammals of Africa table lists a mean head-and-body length of 83 mm and a tail about 70% as long as the head and body.
The Mammals of Africa table classifies its habitat as rain forest. A Kenyan survey caught many similar shrews but identified them as Crocidura cf. selina, not as confirmed C. selina.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
