The Buff-breasted Buttonquail is a ground-dwelling bird known from a limited part of northeastern Queensland. It has been recorded in stony or grassy woodland, but much remains poorly known.
The male has an olive-buff breast and fore-neck, with black and rufous bars on the back. The female has brighter rufous upperparts and darker gray sides to the head.
It lives and nests on the ground, hiding a woven-grass nest at the base of a grass clump or shrub. Its diet is largely unknown; insects and seeds were found in four gut samples.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
