This horseshoe bat was described from specimens collected in forests on Mount Mabu and Mount Inago in Mozambique. The MDD retains it provisionally but notes a possible synonymy with Rhinolophus hildebrandtii.
The description reports a large horseshoe bat with a large skull and noseleaf. The noseleaf shape differed between specimens.
Specimens were captured on Mount Mabu and Mount Inago in northern Mozambique, in submontane and montane forest at about 550 m and 1,000 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
