Sato's beaked whale is a small beaked whale recorded in the North Pacific. It has a dark body and is described with a relatively short beak.
It is described as darker, smaller, and shorter-beaked than Baird's beaked whale. The description is based on few records.
A 635-cm male stranded in Wakkanai, Hokkaido, on 17 June 2019 had cephalopods and a plastic fragment in its stomach. On 8 May 2023, researchers found and filmed three groups that appeared to be Sato's beaked whales near the Abashiri Submarine Canyon using a drone.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
