The volcano shrew is a small shrew known from montane forests in Rwanda and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It has dense, soft blackish-brown fur and a long tail relative to its body. The nose, ears, limbs, and tail are a slightly paler brown than the body fur.
The species was recorded during a terrestrial small-mammal trapping survey in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. This documents a ground-survey record, not its diet or detailed behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
