A green bird with a tall crest and a long tail.
It has green plumage, red eyes and a red bill, with a tall crest on its head.
A 2015–2016 survey of four protected areas in Côte d’Ivoire compared the habitats used by several turaco species. Guinea Turacos were recorded in more degraded forest, while the Violet Turaco in the same paper was associated with more conserved habitat. The comparison suggests that related species may respond differently as forests change.
The study relied on observations at protected sites, so it cannot explain why Guinea Turacos occurred in degraded forest or whether they bred successfully there. Presence in a site does not show that logging or land conversion is harmless. Long-term records of habitat use and population size are needed for species-specific forest management.
IUCN Red List · Least Concern (LC) · Global
The Guinea Turaco is listed as Least Concern globally by the IUCN Red List; its latest assessment record located was published in 2016. In Côte d’Ivoire, the species was also recorded in more degraded forest. Continued monitoring of forest condition, breeding and local numbers across sites can show how its habitat use changes over time.
