This vanga lives in dry deciduous forest in northwestern Madagascar. It searches dead wood and leaf clumps for small animals.
Males have a glossy black cap, dark grey upperparts, and whitish underparts. Females and immature birds have a smaller cap and pale spots behind the eye.
It takes invertebrates from dead wood and leaf clumps and may join mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
