This Melomys is known from the Talaud Islands. A 2003 table of museum specimens gives a mean head-and-body length of 174 mm and a mean tail length of 171 mm. A 2016 paper says its ecology is poorly documented and notes the earlier view that it may be arboreal.
In the 2003 table, mean head-and-body length was 174 mm and mean tail length was 171 mm; the few measured specimens had tails about as long as the body.
The 2016 paper says the species' ecology is poorly documented. It cites an earlier view that it is arboreal and that the two Talaud Melomys species occur in primary and secondary forest; these are not observations from the 2016 study.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
