This toucan lives in humid forests from western Colombia into Ecuador. Males and females differ in bill length.
Males have black upperparts, a yellow head and throat, a red throat line, and white undertail coverts. Females are similar but smaller, with a shorter bill.
Pairs or small groups forage in the canopy and in isolated trees. They eat fruit as well as insects and small animals.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
