This breeding resident ranges from Senegal to central Africa. A 2018 paper reports observations at several Liberian locations from 2013 to 2018 and confirms that it is resident there.
It has a black hood with fine white scaling, an olive-green back, and yellow underparts. It is a large warbler with a long tail and bill.
It prefers gallery forest near water and also occurs at rainforest edges, plantations, and mangroves. It skulks; the male is often detected by loud whistled song, sometimes accompanied by low chattering scolds from the female.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
