This leaf-nosed bat is recorded in northern Vietnam. A Vietnamese study treats two subspecies with documented localities.
In H. a. sungi, the back is dark brown and the underside is brown to gray-brown. The head and shoulders are paler, and the noseleaf has three well-developed pairs of appendages.
The paper reports both subspecies from caves in limestone mountains and describes cave colonies of roughly 300–500 bats.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
