The giant genet has pale yellowish to ochre-white fur with dark spots and alternating rings on its tail. Little is known about its life, but it appears to be nocturnal.
Its coat ranges from yellowish to ochre-white, with small dark spots on the back and a dark mask on the face. Pale and dark rings alternate along its tail.
It inhabits lowland to mid-altitude rainforest and has been reported resting in hollow dead trees or among vines. One animal was seen on a forest road at night, and one captive animal was active only at night. At 02:10 on 10 July 2005 in Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda, a genet considered likely to be this species was photographed climbing from the ground into a tree, jumping to another tree, and returning to the ground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
