Weyns’s Weaver occurs in central Africa, including around Lake Victoria and along the Congo River. Species accounts place it in seasonal swamp forest and lakeside vegetation; it is usually resident but may wander irregularly.
Adult males have a black head, back and breast, a pale eye, a yellow wing-bar and chestnut-yellow remaining underparts. Females have plain olive-green upperparts and face, a pale eye and no supercilium.
The species account describes restless movement high in trees and fast flight. Records along Lake Victoria also include papyrus vegetation.
