This tit inhabits forests on the southern Izu Islands. It eats insects as well as seeds and nuts.
The forehead, lores, cheeks, and sides of the neck are chestnut brown. The deep-black nape has an irregular pale chestnut patch at its center. A 2014 comparison also found color differences in the frontal band, nape streak, and throat band relative to the Varied Tit; size alone is not diagnostic across the complex.
It uses mixed woodland with evergreen oaks, conifers, and bamboo-covered slopes and valleys, feeding on insects, seeds, and nuts.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
