The hairy-tailed akodont is a small rodent found in central South America. It lives mainly in grasslands and savannas and eats mostly seeds, though insects can become more important after dry-season fires.
Its back is olive-gray and its belly is paler grayish white. It has short ears and a sparsely furred tail shorter than its head and body.
It is found mainly in grassland and savanna, but also at forest edges and in fields. It digs underground burrows with multiple entrances and tunnels. Seeds make up most of its diet, while insects increase in the rainy season following late dry-season fires.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
