The Black-capped Bulbul is endemic to Sri Lanka. The Ceylon Bird Club page uses the older combination Pycnonotus melanicterus; Clements uses the current spelling Rubigula melanictera.
It has a black cap, yellow underparts, and green-ochre upper plumage. The sexes look alike, but the male has a crimson iris and the female a deep brown iris.
It uses forest and other well-wooded habitat from the low country to the mid hills. It moves in pairs or small parties through trees and shrubs and eats fruit and insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
